8-9-08抵达至今，不知不觉已有一星期了。趁还没开课当儿，让小弟跟大家分享这几天的活动和观察所得，当然也会提到这儿的"衣食住行"和"风土人情"。。哈哈
第一个星期除了适应环境，接下来就是出席orientation，我们国际学生共有3天orientation和1天full day bus tour。接下来的星期就是fresher week。大致上，我在这儿遇到4+1大马人，其中4位是IMU双联课程的医学系学士生，另一个是出生、成长、受教育于德国的工程硕士生。我呢，到现在还没遇到我的coursemate, 连同一个faculty的都还没遇到。多数研究生是社会与商学较多。我发觉来至印度的学生该有30%吧。至今我遇到的学生有英格兰、美国、印度、日本、香港、加拿大、德国、法国。
这3天的orientation多数关于大学简介、安全、银行、工作、交通、学会福利、住宿等课题。过后有bus tour，带我们到格拉斯哥绕一绕，遗憾的是没得下巴士看。过后周四晚有个social event,除了有自助餐吃，也有娱乐节目--跳苏格兰传统舞蹈 （ceilidh）
在orientation时，朋友问到我的名，我讲CHOON KIAT,我看有90%听不明，有些叫我JOHN, SYON, etc...我看还是跟他们讲姓氏好了--LIM,否则就要自己取个洋名。。哈哈
也有些朋友问我大马的境况，因为他们也知道最近这国家有些“tension”，哈哈。小弟也只好据理分析，阐明情况。
现在跟大家讲些这儿的点滴：
衣-现在平均温度为15-18，所以如云顶般，不需穿冬天的寒衣，只需穿长袖的棉衣就可啦。但佩服这儿的人，还可tahan,一些还只穿裙
食-大致上有华人餐馆的，只是离我住处较远，而且较贵。最经济的是吃面包，三文治。。哈哈普遍的快餐厅有SUBWAY, GREEGS。奇怪我至今没见到KFC（我朋友说有一间），但见到一间麦当劳。现在小弟有时会到市场买些材料回家准备食物，这样会较经济：饭+火腿、香肠，沙拉，三文治等。
住-住宿舍，没什么特别，但十分静
行-虽然大学有巴士，但如有时间会走路，当作运动，然后从宿舍到大学会经过一条叫kelvin way的路，这条路充满绿意，很有大自然的感觉（照片下次才上载）。
风-风吹时，真是冷到"冻"，雨伞都会被吹到。
土-我想土地肥沃，所以很多美丽的植物
人情-这儿的人十分热情，和礼貌。做事很有效率。

i was arrived at Glasgow on 8-9-08,below are observations and happenings throughout first week of my departure.
basically, in the first week, i try get used to the new environment,participated in orientation programme, as well as my opinions and feelings on food, culture, etc of this lovely city--glagsow. In the following week, i will attend a fresher week at glasgow uni.
well, to date, i met 5 malaysians, 4 were from IMU, twining prog students doing undergrad. study in medicine, while another guy is borned,educated in Germany. I think about 30% of the postgraduate students are from INDIA. unfortunately, i haven't meet with my course mate, even students from the same faculty also never seen. Most of the postgraduate here are major in social science or business studies. I met with students from germany, france, india, hong kong, japan,canada, us, england, etc.
in 3 days orientation prog, we got brief info about the university and matters in banking, accomodation, safety, part-time work, students' welfare etc. The, i also took part in a city bus tour. So bad, tht we cant cum down from the bus to take some pics. Then, on thurs nite, there was a social event at Bute Hall of glasgow uni, buffet was provided, and we also learnt ceilith--scottish traditional dance.
it is so bad that most of the students can't pronounce my name--choon kiat, some called me "syon", "john", etc...really funny. i think nxt time i should tell them my surname, perhaps i can have a nick name next time..haha
some students also expressed their concerns about recent happenings in malaysia, they asked me is it very "tension" now?, anyway, i tried to analyze the real situation to them in a rational way, and told them currently the real situation wasn't bad, but we dunno what's going happen in the future.
now let's me share some info about my stay at glasgow:
wear--now is autumn season in glasgow, so not really cool. temperature about 15degree celcius, so there is not necessary to wear winter suite ye :-)
food--basically hardly for me to find chinese cuisine near to my hall of residence, and actually quite expensive as compare with wester food, eg. bread, sandwiches. i also hardly find MC D and KFc, common fast food restaurant are subway, greegs...anywhere, i began to prepare food myself few days ago, e,g, sandwidh, rice with ham / sausage, bread. Went to suprmarket and purchased some food materials.
stay--basically i stay at uni. accomodation, most of the facilities are provided..haha, not worry much
transport--eventhough bus is provided, but if it is possible, i prefer walk to uni, cos as a form of exercise. besides, there is nice and beautiful scenery along the way to the university, i enjoy it so much..photos will be uploaded soon..pls bear wit ck
lastly, about people here. I would like to say ppl here are so nice, and approachable. also, very effective in doing work. i also found that scottish and english ( from england) have their own accent in speaking english language. that's why sometime i felt hard for me to understand their language compare with those from english.
i will post some story about glasgow uni and happenings during fresher's week next time.
