无可否认,英国把教育搞得不错,能成为美国之后第二个最吸引海外学生留学的国家,每年教育为她赚取数亿英镑的收入。昨天出席一场毕业典礼,一度质疑自己是否在中国城市里的一所大学或拉曼大学/学院出席毕业典礼。学生多元化是好事,但为了吸引留学生,赚取盈利,而降低或简化入学资格,就不可行啊!
我的际遇,使我了解不少大学多元化的课程。我一直认为近年来英国教育(尤其是新兴大学)过度注重商业化了。试想想9个月完成商硕士课程:真的能学以致用吗?这些9个月的硕士跟本科没分别,就是上课,交功课,考试而已。跟填鸭式教育制度相似。想想1.5-2年的MBA跟9个月的商硕士所学习之差会大吗?
毫无节制的招生,导致师生比率不符,加上有些大学的软硬体设备都还未能符合庞大学生的需求。这也导致学生无法享受留学体验。
简略入学资格导致许多英文或学术不符合资格的学生也能通过替代考试入学。这也让我看到许多sub-standard(次等)的研究生。
教育并不是关于您几时能完成硕士,几时能拿到博士学位等。我认为该注重人品发展,软技能开发,沟通交际和处事能力。我感到很遗憾听到不少学弟妹们在告诉我为什么他们要当博士跳班生时的原因都只是围绕在要在25岁前当博士。难道,我们要的是多A生和年轻但见识不宽,科研能力还有待加强的专家吗?
我有反问学弟妹们那么博士后要做什么,很多都答不出。其实科研是条漫长和艰辛的路。修一个博士,不代表你就是专家了。在博士阶段,我们努力学习新技巧,加强联络网。然后接下来的博后锻炼使你体验日后当导师或独立带领科研小组的挑战和磨练平台。
我想一个国家的发展,不是要一批挂着高学历,而没有足够见识,阅历的 人才。我们要的是有创新,知识开发、技术发展能力的人力资源。
教育因本着“树人为本”的德育理念, 期望办教育者能凭良心提供优质教育。

yeah. agree! education is not fast food or canned food.
i spent 2 years 1 semester for my labwork and graduating as a master only after 4 years (to meet the convo date). some may think i've wasted my time. initially i myself also thought so. but now I begin to see what that transition period meant to me. it has given me a chance to think it through before moving on. at least i've a clearer mind where i'm heading to and why I'm doing it.
well, this motivated me abit, it's still not bad pursuing Masters in local uni, though it's late but definitely it trained me well in certain way. Frankly speaking, i don't have the sense of creativity, passion, commitment and knowledge that a "scientist" should require, so i still hoping can finish my work faster, perhaps to do a full time traveller. lol.
